Implementing Basic & Alongside

1.png

Implementing Basic gives you the opportunity to take what you learned at Basic deeper into your own heart, as we re-teach five of our foundational tools, and you practice using them.  We’ll learn from one another as we discuss different uses and misuses of each tool, ways to use pieces and parts, and how to use the tools in various contexts.  We'll connect the tool to Scripture and use it as a framework for prayer, all leading us to see Jesus and find him to be most beautiful.  Implementing Basic will help you to become more fluent in gospel language and more agile in taking the gospel to your own heart and to the heart of others.

The 5-day Basic Intensive was like trying to drink Living Water from a fire hydrant - I came parched but left drenched with the beauty of the Gospel! The Tool Cohort has allowed me to sip that same Living Water from a cup, draining my glass over and over again as we slowly dig deeper into each of the Tools and continue to build our Arsenals.

Implementing Alongside is a follow up cohort that will help you grow in gospel fluency and become more competent and confident in walking alongside others with the gospel and your life, as well.  In a community of gospel sisters, you'll review and practice using tools and skills learned in Alongside.  This cohort also offers opportunities to give and receive feedback in peer coaching, and is a pre-requisite for all Parakaleo certified coaches.

A GOSPEL LENS LOOK AT RESILIENCE

LEADER: SHARON HICKS

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2018-OCTOBER 26, 2018, 9:00aM-10:30AM EASTERN

Prerequisite: Must have attended Basic

Cost $100

As ministry couples, we tend to view ourselves as God’s employees and forget we are his beloved children. Grace happens to everyone else while we go on to wear out. Our passion for ministry gets swallowed up by the urgency of those we serve. It has been said, “If you don’t want to burn out, stop living like you are on fire!” Clearly this person was not familiar with pastoral ministry.

A GOSPEL LENS LOOK AT DEVELOPING CULTURAL INTELLIGENCE

LEADER: MARIA GARRIOTT

WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 12, 2018-OCTOBER 17, 2018, 7:00PM-8:30PM EASTERN

Prerequisite: Must have attended Basic

Cost $100

Ethnic prejudice (and even genocide) exists all over the world, part of the consequences of humankind’s fall. A cursory review of U.S. history shows that the dominant culture has oppressed people of multiple ethnicities. Yet the Bible calls us to a higher standard. The Good News of Jesus Christ reconciles us to God, but also reconciles us to one another. The Great Commission calls us to make disciples of all nations (ethnos), not just those with whom we feel comfortable. Read full summary.

The course is great! I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the material was excellent and discussions very informative. It got me out of my comfort zone as we looked at issues of race and ethnicity. I realized I need to be more intentional in relating to others with different ethnic backgrounds. It was also very helpful to view this from the perspective of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration. Maria’s passion for women learning cultural intelligence was very contagious. I find myself talking about it more with groups I’m in.

A GOSPEL LENS LOOK AT FORGIVENESS

LEADER: RUTH ANN BATSTONE & SHARON HICKS

THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27, 2018-DECEMBER 6, 2018, 10:00AM-11:30AM EASTERN

Prerequisite: Must have attended Basic

Cost $100

Do you struggle to forgive? Perhaps you find your heart struggling with a low grade issue that doesn’t seem to resolve? Are you tired of forgiving over and over again? Does trauma or betrayal continue to plague your life and memory? Has a particular relationship caused you harm?

Because we live between the Now and the Not Yet, we are all wounded and we all wound. Each of us has experienced deep hurt by someone who has wounded us physically, emotionally, or spiritually by their words and actions. We’ve been hurt and we don’t know quite what to do with it - how to process, how to forgive, and what moving forward in relationships does and does not look like. The struggle to forgive can leave us gasping for air, but God’s promise in Ps 23:3 is a place to breathe and a path that’s good. “True to your word, you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction."

In this cohort, we will use gospel tools to look at how our stories fit into God’s story, where we typically hide when we’ve been hurt, and how forgiveness might change and free us to love God and others.
